10.3.1910, maj. Tymienica, Łęczyca Dist., Łódź Prov.Whilst the private memorial stone indicates the 26th Poznań Infantry Battalion, the CWGC register indicates he was commissioned into the Polish Resettlement Corps. The lieutenant was a technical officer in the battalion. A Polish source records that he died at Achnacarry Camp, Spean Bridge. He was single. His father was Izydor Zakrzewski of Marynki, Poświętne, Wysoko Maz. District. His mother’s maiden name was Jadwiga Sousfeld. The grave of this Polish officer is located in a breathtaking position overlooking the hills and Glen Spean. There is a magnificent private memorial to this officer which unfortunately is badly weathered. As a private memorial it is not in the care of the Commission. |

22.6.1906, Nowiny, Dubno Dist. Buried in Service Section K2 Grave 65. Technically, as he died after 31st December 1947, the grave is not regarded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as a war grave, yet the design of the memorial follows the typical Polish design of headstone common to those who died before the end of 1947. He died at Ballochmyle Hospital, Mauchline in Ayrshire. (This hospital had a Polish section). Though unit given as 11 pac - an official source gives his usual address as a 'recalcitrant' camp in Banff. (These recalcitant camps, so named by the British, (Polish - opornych) housed men who did not want to enlist in the Polish Resettlement Corps nor return to Poland). |
